Zone 13a is a very warm and tropical zone without threat of frost or freeze.  The growing season is long.  Tropical species that cannot be grown well in other zones can thrive here.

Growing Considerations:

  • Be on the watch for extremely high temperatures.

    • Be prepared to adjust watering and irrigation practices as needed to manage soil moisture and minimize fungal growth

    • Consider the use of drought and heat tolerant garden and ornamental plants

  • Prepare for heavy rainfall that could lead to soil erosion

  • Be prepared to scout for pests such as insects and diseases following mild winters.

  • High rainfall can lead to nutrient leaching

    • Consider applying fertilizers and amendments at reduced rates, but more frequently
