Growing Considerations:

  • Be on the watch for unexpected frosts as well as unexpected extremely high temperatures.

    • Consider the use of mulches, cold frames, hoophouses, or row covers to protect from the cold

    • Be prepared to adjust watering and irrigation practices

  • Highly variable soils that include rocky, sandy, and high clay soils.

  • Be prepared to scout for pests such as insects and diseases following mild winters.

  • Consider the use of pre-emergent crabgrass herbicides in the lawn when soil temperatures reach 50 degrees Fahrenheit
